Former Young Masters Golf student Leona Maguire has been named on the Junior European Ryder Cup team to play the Americans this autumn — but there was no place for twin sister Lisa, also a graduate of the scheme.

The Irish twins played in the event two years ago in Kentucky when the USA won a one-sided encounter 12-2.

Leona, 15, was a wild card pick for this year’s team which is made up of both boys and girls.

Both girls, from Slieve Russell in Co Cavan, did feature, however, in the Curtis Cup team which lost 12½-7½ to the USA in Massachusetts, in June.

And both are scheduled to take part in next week’s AIB Ladies Irish Open, at Killeen Castle, from August 6-8.
