Ian Woosnam honoured with OBE

Ian Woosnam has been honoured in
the New Year's Honours List. Ian, who is a long time
supporter of YMG Junior Golf, has been awarded the honour
for services to sport.
Woosie captained Europe to a record-equalling victory
over the USA in September's Ryder Cup at the K Club
in Ireland. He also played in eight Ryder Cups team,
winning four times and won the US Masters in 1991.
One of the world's most popular...
Ian is one of golf's most popular players, having won
tournaments all over the world become one of the most
exciting and most successful golfers in the world. He
has twice finished in the number one position of the
European Tour Order of Merit (1987 and 1990). In 1987
he became the first player to earn £1,000,000
in prize money in a single year, winning 8 events around
the world.
World No. 1 for 51 weeks!
He his first American tournament in 1991 in New Orleans
and a few weeks later took over the World number one
position, which he held for a staggering 51 consecutive
weeks. It was in April 1991 that he also won first major
championship, the US Masters at Augusta.
His captaincy of the Ryder Cup team that triumphed
over the American side at the K Club in Ireland in September
2006 confirmed Ian's position as one of Britain's most
successful ever golfers.
Ian was last honoured in 1992 with an MBE.
