Henrik triumphs again!
Dateline: Sunday 25 February 2006, Tucson, USA
Sweden's Henrik Stenson triumphed
on the world stage again when he won the WGC-Accenture
Match Play Championship in Tucson Arizona, USA this
weekend.
The 30 year old Swede - who joined Golf in Dubai and
YMG to celebrate their junior golf partnership at the
Open Championship last summer - has now climbed to 5th
place in the World rankings, the highest place ever
achieved by a Swedish player. He beat Australia Geoff
Ogilvy by 2&1 in the 36-hole match play final on
Sunday to become the second European winner of the title.
Darren Clarke won the title in 2000.
Fantastic start...
It has been a fantastic start to the year of Ryder Cup
player Henrik. Just a few weeks ago he beat the likes
of World Number 1 Tiger Woods and Ernie Els to claim
the Dubai Desert Classic title. Meanwhile, his victory
at the WGC-Accenture Match Play in Tucson has reinforced
the view held by many that he will be among the top
contenders in all four Majors this year.
Excitement about Henrik's potential to win Majors has
been further fueled by the fact that he has chosen to
play more events on the US PGA Tour this year, as well
as continuing to support the European Tour.
More US PGA Tour
"I've taken up membership of the PGA Tour,"
confirmed Henrik, "and I'm playing about 15 events
this year in the US."
Henrik has already won six European Tour events and
now with his first US PGA Tour title under his belt,
many are tipping him to be Europe's next Major champion.
